smile time!
Today Taylor turns three months old. (I'll do her official three month post after her doctor's visit.) That means I've been a mommy for three months. And that also means I've been exclusively breastfeeding/pumping for three months. In the breastfeeding world, that means you have bronze boobies.
This is kind of a big deal to me. You see, I was never afraid of the actual delivery. Yes, it was painful and tiring and basically the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, but I knew that one way or another that my baby girl was coming out of me. MY biggest fear was breastfeeding. It was something I really wanted to do, yet not everyone CAN do it. There can be complications with supply, with your baby latching, with gas or allergy issues. Or, you could find it too difficult and just give up. But none of that happened.
Don't get me wrong, we sure had our fair share of issues. I had a bad case of mastitis that rocked me. I had a baby with an over aggressive latch which caused me to lose large percentages of my nipples. I currently have a baby that will only latch with the use of nipple shields. But all that aside, I'm blessed that I am able to do something that was so important to me.
I originally made a goal to make it to six months. I really hope I can achieve that goal. After all, I think my boobies would look good silver!
*note - I have absolutely no qualms with mothers who choose to formula feed or mothers who tried to breastfeed but ultimately ended up going to formula or supplementing. Breastfeeding was just my personal choice. I am definitely not a judger. :)

Way to go boobies, LOL.
ReplyDeleteLove the smiles pic!
Nice work!
ReplyDeleteoh my god you just made me clutch my tits in panic with that "lost large percentages of my nipples"
ReplyDeleteBUT I'M HAPPY FOR YOU ♥
Wahoo! Breastfeeding is very important to me as well. I'm hoping to make it to one year. It's going well so far, but I'm still nervous about producing enough later on.
ReplyDeleteYay for bronze boobies! I'd say you need to hang a plaque for that one. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great to hear such an awesome perspective on nursing! I'm hoping to do it as well, as long as the ladies cooperate :)
ReplyDeleteOMG! I didn't know we got medals for our boobies! My boobies are bronze too :) I felt the same way about breastfeeding as you....I was soooo worried about it and I am so thankful it is going so well. Congrats to you (and your boobies)!
ReplyDeleteoh boy...you're informing me of all the things I get to look forward to :)
ReplyDeleteGo boobies! Go boobies!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about the three month = bronze boobies. I feel cheated! I should have gotten a plaque or a certificate or something. Sigh. Oh well, I'm not having another one just to be properly rewarded. Maybe it can be retroactive?
Awesome picture! Love it!
congrats. keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThat has to be the absolute cutest mother daughter photo I've ever seen. Good for you for achieving your goal. I know you'll make it to six months!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I was unable to nurse Colton (he wouldn't latch, my milk didn't come in, etc), but Levi was ready and able! After only a week, I can say it is definitely one of the toughest things I have tackled in my life, so major kudos on making it to 3 months...I'm not so sure I will follow!
ReplyDeletehooray you both!!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally panicky about breastfeeding, as well.
Where have I been?! Look at this sweet little baby!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on all fronts - the baby AND the boobies. :)
I thought you had your boobies done like those bronze baby handprints lol
ReplyDeleteMy mistake ;)
I nearly gave up with my last. It was really painful for some reason. But I'm grateful I was able to breastfeed too, mostly. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome job, such an achievement!! You will make it to silver, I'm sure :)
ReplyDeleteWoot woot!! Doesn't it feel awesome to reach that first Olympic status of breastfeeding? It sure ain't easy...there were many days early on I doubted I'd make it to 3 weeks, let alone 3months. I'm hoping to make it to 6 months as well, and it sort of feels like a weight is lifted after the 3 month mark, no? Keep on truckin' girl!
ReplyDeleteWahoo! Congrats! You can totally make it to 6 months and beyond if you want! You made it through the hardest part! Go boobies!
ReplyDeleteThis scares the crap outta me too. I know labor will be intense but the breast feeding.. this thing relying on me for a food supply, while being terribly painful for MONTHS and MONTHS.... well, congrats to you mommy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on this. It's a really big milestone. It will probably get a bit more challenging in weeks to come (warning you!), only because Tay will probably go through a growth spurt and you may need to start supplying her with more. But once you start solid foods - everything pumping and breast feeding becomes easier! Promise!!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea boobs got awards like this. Cool! What's gold, 1 year? Hee hee. Well, you're half way there to silver. Yea! I didn't even realize people had problems with nursing since my sisters didn't. I never worried about that. I did worry about it though, thinking I wasn't really going to like it but was willing to do it for the baby. As it turns out, I actually enjoy that bonding time a lot and was really sad when I stopped nursing Claire. At the same time, it was nice to get my body back to myself. Anyway, good job!:)
ReplyDeleteHaha! New to your blog :) love this! I'm rounding the corner towards gold!
ReplyDeleteAhh.. The two of you looked especially cute in this photo! My wife has been breastfeeding for six months now, and she hasn't experienced any complications with it. Congrats to both of you!! =)
ReplyDeleteI just got bronze boobies too! I created a little graphic for it, so swing on by to my blog and feel free to copy the image for your blog!
