Shark week guest post - TV Moms!!

I'm so excited to start the week off with Jennifer Fabulous' guest post.  I love her blog.  She's the only blog I go to that can provide celebrity juice without the sleaze.  She's witty, entertaining, educational and pretty fly too. And she's here today to tell us about her favorite TV moms.  Enjoy!

Hi ladies! This is Jennifer Fabulous, Shannon's neighbor over at I Know, Right?. I am so honored and thrilled to be guest posting on Shannon's fabulous blog. She's one of the coolest moms I know.

Speaking of moms, I thought today I would share with you my top three TV moms. These are moms I think are pretty awesome.

They are:

Mrs. Cunningham

Happy Days was filmed in the 1970s (and 80s) but it is a nostalgic tribute to the 1950s. While Mrs. C seems like a stereotypical housewife, she is everything but. Her kids don't treat her like a maid, they respect her as a parent. Her husband acknowledges the fact that she's an equal, and sometimes its even apparent she's the boss of the house. There is a love between the characters, especially between Mrs. C and her husband, which you simply can't fake. The two must have gotten along famously in real life.

I also adore much fun Mrs. C seems to be. She cracks jokes, which are actually funny. She tends to get a little wild, after a drink or two. She still has a teenager inside of herself, causing her to act goofy in the most endearing way possible.

Plus, despite her frumpy 1950s housewife attire and hairdo, she still has the coolest factor of all: The Fonz thinks she's a total fox. Ayyyyy!

Mrs. Walsh

Cindy Walsh made having a caring mom seem really cool. When the Walsh family relocated from Minnesota to Beverly Hills, twins Brenda and Brandon discovered most of their ritzy, gorgeous new friends didn't have normal, loving parents. And Mrs. Walsh showed those kids what they were missing. She treated each and every friend as if they were her own flesh and blood. She genuinely cared about them.

It was refreshing to see cool kids actually respect their parents and be proud of them. When I was in high school, most of the popular kids would have died if their parents showed an interest in their friends' lives. Brenda and Brandon didn't think twice about it. Because love trumps coolness.

Lorelei Gilmore

Having been a teen mom, Lorelei was much more like an older sister than a parental figure to goody-two-shoes Rory. The single working mom was gorgeous. She was witty. She was hip. She made obscure pop culture references that could impress even the most doubtful of hipsters today.

Watching the show, I always wished that I could have been the third character in their cozy little Stars Hollow home. I would stuff my face with buttery popcorn and laugh during old films with them. I would dance around to the Bangles greatest hits in my pajamas with them. I would talk about boys with them. Oh, the fun which could be had.

But I'm not one of them, so I can't. Excuse me while I go violently sob into my pillow, while my real mom calls me to ask when I'm going to have children.

Anyway.

What do you think of these TV moms? Do you have a favorite?

  2. I was obsessed with Brothers and Sisters before it got cancelled and I LOVED Sally Field as a TV mom. She was just the BEST in that role! A close second might be Claire Dunphy from Modern Family. :)
